The second Paul Pell

Farmer and grazier. Born about 1751, and baptised at Bardney 19 May 1751, son of the first Paul Pell. Died 28 February 1811 at Tupholme Hall. He is in ‘Lincolnshire pedigrees’ by Marsden (Volume 3, p 772). Ensign in the Lincolnshire militia September 1768; resigned as a captain 13 May 1791.

An ox between the long and short horned breed, under four years old, bred and fed by Mr. Pell, of Tupholme, near Lincoln, was slaughtered by Mr. Hart of Wragby, a short time ago, which weighed 88st. 3 lbs. (14 lbs to the stone) had 13 st. 9 lbs of loose fat, and the hide weighed 8st 3lbs. He was remarkably small in the bone, and had been only five months fed on linseed cake.aThe Agricultural Magazine, Or, Farmers’ Monthly Journal, July 1807

Married on 23 December 1780 at St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, to Anne Eaton, daughter and coheir of Henry Eaton of Rainham, Essex, by Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of George Mildmay. Issue three daughters:

  1. Elizabeth Ann Pell. Born 4 October 1781, and baptised 1 November 1781 at South Shields, County Durham. Buried 4 May 1806 at Bardney.
  2. Jane Pell. Born 4 December 1782 at Darlington, and baptised 17 January 1783 at St. Cuthbert’s, Darlington. Married her cousin Paul Francis Pell, and died at Freiston 22 February 1808. Buried there 26 February 1808.
  3. Maria Pell, born 23 November 1783 at Lincoln, and baptised 25 November 1783 at St. Margaret in the Close, Lincoln. Buried at Bardney 26 March 1801.
