Bardney. —The people of this place and neighbourhood generally were much delighted a few days since by hearing of the safe arrival at his native home of Mr. Henry Pell, from Australia, whither he went out some two or three years since, and whence he has lately been recalled by his friends, owing to the death of his revered father, the late Paul Francis Pell, Esq., of Tupholme Hall.cLincolnshire Chronicle, Friday 19 January 1855Henry and his family were living in Chicago in 1871 at the time of the Great Fire. Henry hired a wagon to haul his household belongings away and while waiting for the wagon, he helped his neighbor dig a hole and to bury all of his furniture. Unfortunately, the wagon never showed up. Finally, they were ordered by Army soldiers to leave at once. They started off with the silver, family bible and his tool box but the tool box was too heavy and had to be left. They stood in Lake Michigan and splashed water on themselves in order to keep cool. Once the rain put out the fire, they returned to their house, and found that it was gone, that they could not even find where it had been. By the time the lots were laid out again the neighbors’ furniture that had been buried was ruined.dFound on the internet
