Born at Hull ca. 1791 (from the censuses), son of the second John Grant and died at Louth 7 June 1864, aged 73, whereupon they sold all his belongings. His will was proved at under £3000 on 30 November 1864 at Lincoln, by Thomas Eve of Theddlethorpe, Bennett Pell of Newcastle upon Tyne, and William Allison of Louth.
Seems to have taken over his uncle Thomas’s farm at Withcall in 1810, and sold up in 1819-20. In October 1819 he sold much of his stock, and in May 1820 he sold the rest and all his ‘implements of husbandry’. From this point onwards he became ‘of Oxcombe’, the farm there having been vacted by the death of his uncle William in 1817, until he sold up there in 1825-26.
Residing at Louth in 1841, at Haugham in 1851 with Adam and Emma Eve (his wife’s nephew and niece), and at 22 Nichol Hill, Louth in 1861. He was left this house, along with securities in the Louth Canal and £2000, by the bequest of his aunt Ann Grant in 1846; prior to this he was listed at in Louth at Bridge Street (Pigot’s 1829), Goosepool in 1841 (Pigot’s) and Gospelgate in 1842 (White’s).
Married at Sixhills, 14 October 1814, Ann Eve. She died 14 July 1864 at Lincoln. Residing at Louth in 1841, and an inmate at the Lincoln Lunatic Hospital in 1861.
